Two brushes with greatness

I was honored to have 2 of my tintypes (outtakes from an Out State shoot in 2009) used by designer Ned Irving to illustrate a book about Hiroshi Sueyoshi. (pottery photography by Adam Alphin) for his epic show at the Cameron Museum of Art.
Hiroshi, is one of the most interesting artist I have ever met and is a national treasure. He is collected in all the big time museums, worldwide. More at cameronartmuseum.org.

My second brush with greatness , was a rainy day in the country with Phillip Gerard. Phillip is not only a great musician but the offical historian of the Civil War for Our State magazine. Throught out the 5 years of 150th anniversary events, Philip brought us a collection of fresh tales and newly researched stories that occurred in the Old North State published monthly in Our State. <http://cdbaby.com/cd/philipgerard>

Garden And Gun

Now on News Stands, Garden And Gun April/May 2015. Look for My work on page 149. Copy
by Nic Brown. Fantastic cover by Andy Anderson.
Visit historic Beaufort, it will get the hair on the back of your neck awake. That is,
if you like a chilly day in a graveyard.

Another occurrence of note, was when I was staring for my truth about this place,
with my head under the dark cloth and I hear the whisper of a Leica.... As a confirmed surrealist street photog myself, I know that sound.  Ric Carter, is a fantastic Street photographer who keeps Raleigh and Gates County covered with his poetic photographs of "life today".
Please visit his blog for further details. Wonderful North Carolina imagery.

Perhaps my favorite plate of the day was this stereo view of this broken column. Stare, let your eyes cross and you will see an image appear in the middle that will be 3D. Go buy a Garden and Gun for more about "life today" in the south.

A Tintype Wedding in the Hills of North Carolina

A Wet Plate Collodion photography produces an image called a Tintype. Icy drizzel gave way to sun on this January afternoon. Jennifer and Jons timeless style was a great match for the tintype.
If you find yourself planning a wedding, or a reunion, at a log cabin in the woods, we should talk.

Tintype Portrait Gallery Day is Coming to Salt Studio/Gallery

Thank you Trinty Gallery of Raleigh (Tgalleryraleigh.com) for a fun afternoon of timeless portraiture. Rain, sun, overcast , setting sun, gave us revolving conditions all day with babies and dogs... but with the help of my good friend Julieanna, (fig.2) we some how made 20 some unique portraits on a Sunday afternoon.

Coming this Friday to Wilmington's Salt Gallery/Studio, (a pure photo gallery) I am exhibiting a small collection of prints and plates from the Requiem Glasshouse. Also there will be a number of plates from the river. (Cape Fear that is). It will be a stellar evening of seeing killer photography in Wilmington. See Brownie Harris's 45 year Retrospective at the Wilma Daniels Gallery (if you don't see anything else, see this!) and at Amce Art , see Gary Breece, William Fredrick, Arrow Ross and Barbara Synder in an amazing collection of Vision and content.

It was said clearly by Chuck Close, that Photography is the easiest medium to be proficient, yet the hardest to have a clear voice. I think Friday night will show you several clear voice/visions all within a few blocks.

AND don't forget on 9 March you can star in your own art right here at Salt! Tintype portrait day 10-5. Call Kelly at 910.367.5720.
